NACCU 2020 Innovative Technology Award presented to Clemson University

The recipient of this award began upgrading their access control infrastructure and POS system in 2016 in preparation for launching mobile credentials. Their exemplary foresight and planning allowed them to be one of the first institutions to launch Apple Wallet in Fall 2019. Additionally, the student mobile IDs were integrated into their existing university app, eliminating the need for students to download a third-party app in order to take advantage of mobile access. An in-house credential translation edge device was developed to work with legacy university systems, implement firmware updates and other system changes, and integrate credential provisioning into the existing university app. The adoption rate has far exceeded expectations, with 5,000 credentials provisioned within the first 24 hours of launch. The university is moving toward phase-out of plastic card issuance and is planning a mobile solution for Android-based devices to launch in Fall 2020. On behalf of NACCU and award sponsor HID Global, we are honored to present the NACCU 2020 Innovative Technology Award to Clemson University!
